Description of Course
The use of Geographical Information System, Global Navigation Satellite System and associated geospatial technologies is increasing rapidly. Today this technology is the backbone to many decision-making systems and location-based services. The course on Overview of Geographical Information and Global Navigation Satellite System provides an opportunity to students to learn the basic concepts and applications of Geoformation Science. The course contains an introduction to Geographic Information System for school children as per NCERT syllabus. The course covers GIS and its advantages; Difference between Spatial and Non-Spatial Data; List the components and sequence of activities involved in GIS; Differences between Raster and Vector Model; and the advantages of Raster and Vector Model. The concepts are explained by giving real life examples for better understanding by students. The course is intended to engage secondary and higher secondary students to create awareness about Geographic Information Science & its use to analyse Earth and its environment through informative lectures.
